The ceremony was organized by SOAS College Air Venture under the guidance of the college’s Scout Leaders. Some parts of the ceremony were assisted by members of the National Rover Council. VENTURE LEARNS ABSEILING TECHNIQUES

As part of learning advance knots in venturing, the application of these new knots and rope mastership must come with its application. Many venture scouts find it useless knowing so many knots and rope care but never get to apply it in real world or in activities. Luckily for SOAS College Air Scouts, we have our own equipment and the skipper who knows how to use it.

One Sunday morning when others are fast asleep after playing digital games, new ventures are out in the campsite learning new knots and doing things themselves. It was scary at first but once you remember your training and trust your own knots and equipment, its becomes easy. Skipper Zack also implied that this activity is also a tool to learn about trust, confidence and effective communication. Other than that its a great way to have fun on a Sunday morning.

SOAS COLLEGE AIR SCOUTS ACTIVE IN MAULUD NABI

When it comes to celebrating Prophet Mohammads' Birthday (peace be upon him), or better known in Brunei as Maulud Nabi, students who turn up are usually forced to attend because of parents or school ruling. Most would decide not to make the effort of waking up early and just enjoy an extra day of holiday.

For SOAS COLLEGE AIR SCOUT, it is a honor to attend. Not only for celebrating our beloved Prophet Mohammad's Birthday but we also give a helping for the community. Officials who are always on duty during such event, comment on the yearly-commitment of Maktab SOAS Scouts who are always visible during Maulud Nabi.

The Minister of Religious Affairs gave a speech on  the processions, held simultaneously in all the four districts of the country, would encourage younger generation to continue the unique and traditional way of celebrating Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday for years to come. His Majesty the Sultan then lead the procession as he always would followed by loyal citizens and followers of Islam.

FUTURE VENTURE ONE 5 TREKKING TO WASAI DADAP

Senior Boys on the way to becoming Venture should know places of interest as well as knowing how to find the way
Senior Air Boys went trekking to Wasai Dadap as part of their learning to become future Air Venture Scouts. Venture scouts always knows where to go and how to go there. In a country with many biodiversity and natural waterfalls, scouts should know these places by heart.

Unfortunately today some of the trails were lost due to thick undergrowth. The river path was blocked fallen wood and landmarks were unrecognizable due to land changes. But at least everyone had fun and learn practical knowledge about jungle trekking. That is whats important. Skipper Zack will refer this matter with the village leader and once cleared there will surely be another expedition with new members.

BASIC FIRST AID COURSE

Scout members who have finished their exam spends their time learning other useful skills. One of which is Basic First Aid. Fortunately for Skipper Sakina who is the Commissioner of Health and Safety is also a Certified Instructor. Sanctioned under the Brunei National Resuscitation Committee the course is structured under national guidelines and at the end of the course, scouts would gained their certificates and first aid card.

Patrol leaders from SOAS College Air Scouts, attended the course and paid on their own because they believe that such skills can be helpful in life and activities. So its worth $15. Not to mention how fun and challenging it can be. Providing first aid help is not as easy as on TV. Even on the basic level, taking proper steps and care takes some thinking and practice. With commitment, everyone pass and start making their own first aid pack correctly. Soon they will share this knowledge with the others.
