WORLD BUREAU BADGE CEREMONY 2019

18 new scout members received their world bureau badge today. The new members have spent many weekends of hard work, learning basic scouting skills. The world bureau badge is the first badge received for new scouts at any age. This badge is the same badge other scout around the world will wear after passing basic scout skill. It also symbolizes the unity and brotherhood of all scouts.

Representing the principal was Cikgu Azri bin Haji Sulaiman, who is the Assistant Senior Master in SOAS College and representing District Commissioner was Skipper Zakaria Mohamad Nor, who is the assistant commissioner for boys and venture programs.

The ceremony was conducted by senior scouts lead by Rover Scout, Riduan bin Awang Haji Sulaiman, who also received his letter of appointment to officially assist SOAS College Air Troop 1002. Adam Rusydan bin Haji Ramli was also appointed and will team up to assist Cikgu Azri. The new members look forward to more activities such as camping, trekking, cooking and educational visits. The troop would like to thank all parents, students and school staff for making the ceremony a success.

EDUCATIONAL VISIT TO ROYAL REGALIA

One of the best way to learn about Brunei is by visiting the Royal Regalia Museum or also known as Muzium Alat Kebesaran Diraja. Its like a museum of the monarchy of Brunei. The museum building is a large gold-domed structure which is fitted with specially-designed mosaics.

The main display at the entrance hall is a huge chariot used for the parade carrying the Sultan through the streets of the city on the occasion of his 1992 silver jubilee celebration. Exhibits include the artifacts that were used for royal ceremonies in the country, the gold and silver ceremonial weaponry, crowns embedded with jewels, and other paraphernalia that formed part of the coronation ceremonies, and ceremonial costumes as well as exhibits of "documents and treaties" in the Constitutional Gallery.

Throughout the visit, scouts were taking notes as part of the learning activities. Some have discovered the relation of state crest to what they see everyday. A large part of the learning was meanings in the Brunei flag and state colors. For some it was the first time and would like to come again with the family. For others they are glad to come again with some learning involved.

WELCOME CLASS OF 2019

About 21 new boys enjoyed their first scout lesson today in Scout HQ Campsite. There were introduction to basic foot drill, flag break ceremony and scout promise for the first time. The atmosphere was fun with a little self-descipline along the way. The objective is to instill the ways and spirit of scouting right from the beginning. Knowing how to do the flag-break ceremony with all its procedures is the beginning of every scout event and activity.
New member Hadi from year 9 demonstrating the Scout Promise

New member Ammar leading the doa for closing ceremony

Other than that its about getting organized, filling out forms and making new uniforms. The new boys were assisted by seniors members and rover scouts. It was a good 3 hours of making new friends and fun learning about scouts. We thank District Scout Commission and PPNBD for making our learning today a success.

2019 JANUARY BREAKFAST MEETING

2018 was great but 2019 will be better. Thats what we aim to do in scouting. A great way to talk casually without reservations is by having casual breakfast. No uniforms no rules just plain discussion with good food. Some ideas we put on the table are, ... getting more members, more camping, more outdoors as much as we can before exam season. Also Scout Standard Award for Year 7, Advance Scout Standard for Year 8 and Chief Scout Award for year 9. Year 10 and 11 is the usual Venture Award Scheme. All these needs to be done atleast before mid year exams. After that a massive slow down to allow students keeping promise for good exam results by end of the year. So we now Skipper Zack have to plan out with the school as well as District for all these to be possible. Good to have our voices and concerns heard and now we look forward for another exciting year in Scouting!
